Nancy O’Byrne
Nancy retired in 2004 from working in Commercial Real Estate for 15 years.
She decided to take a more meaningful path in her life by devoting much of her time to advocacy for peace and justice issues in her church and in her community. She has been involved in many charitable endeavors over the years: Founder of the first NAS Jacksonville Pediatric Pre-Surgery Program (1981- 1984); Florida Easter Seals State Board member (1997-2000); National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP) – Charity Chairwoman for the Northeast Florida Region (2001-2004); and the Way Free Medical Clinic founding Board member (2004-2010).
In addition to being one of the Pax Christi Northeast Florida Coordinators for the past several years, she is currently the Chairwoman of the Justice and Peace Commission for the Diocese of St. Augustine; the Diocesan Coordinator of JustFaith; Chairwoman of the Legislative Advocacy Committee of the Diocesan Catholic Charities Board; One of the Justice Coordinators for the Sisters of St. Joseph Associates of St. Augustine; and a member of Grandmothers for Peace. She volunteers weekly at the Catholic Charities office in St. Augustine and she is a Pastoral Care volunteer for Haven Hospice in St. Augustine as well. She and David have been married for 16 years and have 3 grown children and 6 beautiful grandsons.
David O’Byrne
David received a Masters degree in Social Work from Barry University, Miami, Florida, in 1979. He worked for the state of Florida for a few years, and then he joined the staff of Catholic Charities in Jacksonville in 1981 as a Marriage and Family counselor. In 1983, he became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). He worked for Catholic Charities Jacksonville for 25 years before moving to St. Augustine in 2006. He joined Psychological Services of St. Augustine (PSSA) the same year, and now works part-time for PSSA and Catholic Charities in St. Augustine.
David, too, has a deep commitment to social justice issues. He is a member of the Diocesan Justice and Peace Commission, Pax Christi Northeast Florida, the Diocesan Divorced and Separated Ministry Board, and is a JustFaith Cofacilitator. He has been on several Kairos teams in north Florida prisons and corresponds regularly with several prison inmates. He and Nancy attend the SOAW vigil every November in Columbus, GA, as well as the Hiroshima-Nagasaki “Lest We Forget…” Day every August at the gates of the Trident Submarine Base in St. Mary’s, GA.
