PC-FLAC ’24 Advocacy Training Webinar: Engaging Your Florida Legislator;
This virtual program features a panel with experience in advocacy and how to have an impact with the Florida Legislature. We will address practical ways to build constructive relationships with legislators, grounded in our commitment to speak from conscience, emulating the Peace of Christ, and encouraging our legislators to advance the common good for all Floridians.

Toward a Better Kind of Politics. Meg will draw from Pope Francis’ challenge in his encyclical Fratelli Tutti and his notion of “equally sacred” as we strive to be multi-issue advocates in a way that confronts white Christian Nationalism, racism, climate destruction, xenophobia, etc.

MICHAEL SHEEDY, Executive Director, Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops; Speaking CatholicMichael will address approaches to engaging our Bishops in efforts to support our agendaHe will also share from his experience working with Catholic legislators and how best to dialogue with them from the perspective of faith and Catholic Social Teaching.

RACHEL GRAGE, Legislative Liaison, St. Johns County Democratic Women’s Club;
Anyone Can Do It! Rachel will share the story of how she got involved in advocacy for the first time during the recent 2023 Florida Legislature session, the steps she took along the way, and the issues she is most concerned about.

REV. RUSSELL MEYER, Executive Director, Florida Council of Churches;
Toward A Theory of Change: The Spirituality of Advocacy. Rev. Russell will reflect on how we move from a transactional approach in advocacy to one that is transformational, by underscoring the critical importance of developing relationships with our legislators, both in Tallahassee and in our local districts.
