Report on our PCF Retreat

Re-imagining the Peace of Christ

On the weekend of March 18–20, Pax Christi Florida members gathered in person for the first time since 2015 at the Chinsegut Retreat Center.

Led by Dr. Mary Carter Waren, we explored what it could mean to be the Peace of Christ in 2022, using Pope Francis’ book “Let Us Dream, The Path to a Better Future”.

Joining us for the weekend were Johnny Zokovitch, Pax Christi USA Executive Director, Lauren Bailey, Pax Christi USA National Filed Organizer and Vickie Machado, member of Pax Christi USA Young Adult  Caucus. During the weekend we also honored Fr. Frank O’Loughlin as a “Prophet of Peace” and celebrated the 40th Anniversary of Pax Christi Florida.

Some of the participants shared their “take-aways” from our gathering:

“It was a joy to be with folks who have, in the Catholic tradition, been about what is so at the heart of the Gospel for so long here in Florida. Just the shared accompaniment with such people of witness was profoundly formative.”

“just simply grounding and nourishing”

“This was a super way to take Francis’ message and give it  shape for reflection and action.”

“My take on the main message is that God wants peace, as does Pope Francis. We, the church, can no longer support war and violence.”

“a take away for life: “Are you moving toward love in this situation or away from love” thank you Mary”
