YAOI Referral Strategies

SUGGESTIONS ON WHERE TO FIND THE YOUNG ADULTS WE SEEK (Sources for referrals):

As members and supporters of Pax Christi Florida, you may already be in touch with young adults for whom you can make a direct referral and enter their name and contact information on the referral form. However, your source for other referrals may be indirect. Consider approaching various individuals and organizations and ask them to recommend referrals. An incomplete listing of sources for indirect referral might include the following:

A. Organizational Mailing Lists with whom we have some level of association. i.e.:
PC-USA Young Adult Caucus
Just Faith Ministries
Catholic Volunteers of Florida. (current volunteers and alumni, who may still live in Florida);
Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty

B. Higher Education:
-Campus Ministry programs on catholic colleges and universities in Florida;
-Campus Ministry or InterFaith Programs in secular colleges and universities in Florida;
-Referrals from professors of religion and theology in colleges across Florida;
-Referrals from leadership development programs in Florida colleges & universities;
ECHO – A graduate program in theology at the University of Notre Dame that places grad students on “mission” in several dioceses in Florida (St. Augustine & St. Petersburg);
Catholic Campus Ministry Association (CCMA)
-Theology on Tap; (college students gather at local taverns for facilitated theological reflection); 

C. Catholic Parish & Diocesan Ministries and Communities of Religious Men & Women:
-Search parish and diocesan directories for programs in Young Adult Ministry
-Seek out individuals in parishes that may have Young Professionals groups;
-Seek referrals from Catholic Charities, St. Vincent de Paul, and other Catholic social outreach groups;
-Seek referrals from women religious communities in Florida, i.e. Holy Name Monastery (St. Leo), Sisters of St. Joseph (St. Augustine), etc.

D. InterFaith Organizations involved in social justice issues: For instance, (there are many more!):
Eco-Stewards Program (People of faith who work in areas of environmental justice);
DART (Direct Action & Research Training Center). It’s mission is to empower Inter-Faith community organizing for social justice; DART Network in Florida.
-Organizations that address issues impacting criminal justice system and prison ministry;
-Organizations that work with people with disabilities, i.e. L’Ache;
-Organizations that work in areas of refugee assistance/advocacy on immigration policy;
-Organizations that work with Haiti, historically a focus of PCF outreach;
-Organizations that focus on racial equality, diversity and inclusion, i.e. One Jax
-Organizations that working with the homeless;

E. Volunteer Placement Programs
— Past Peace Corps Volunteers Living in Florida
— Alumni of various catholic volunteer organizations involved in long-term volunteer “mission” work, i.e.,  Glenmary Home Missioners, Jesuit Volunteer Corp, Maryknoll Volunteers
